The Saluting Battery is located on one of the best vantage points overlooking the Grand Harbour. Its origins are as old as those of the City itself, having been built as part of it, in 1566, by the Order of St. John on the design of the military engineer Francesco Laparelli. The building of Valletta followed the end of the Great Siege of 1565. During that conflict, the full length of the Valletta promontory was easily overrun by the Ottomans who built several powerful siege batteries to keep the Knights of St. John and the Maltese holed-up within Fort St. Angelo and the walled towns of Vittoriosa and Senglea. Nowadays this location is a very exclusive spot for private events.

ContactFormerly the summer residence of one of Malta’s leading 20th Century Industrialists Chevalier Antonio Cassar Torregiani, The Villa is a fine example of Maltese architecture. Antonio Cassar Torregiani loved this location on the waters’ edge and built a magnificent staircase to the design of his father in law Giuseppe Cali, transforming this otherwise humble farm house into a stunning home with a palatial entrance. Following his death in 1959 he left this house to his Son Frank who lived there till his death in 1973. Survived by his wife and children the Villa was lived in until 1989 when the property was later sold to a consortium who built the now Le Meridian St Julian’s on its land and gardens.
The hotel was finished in 2006 and The Villa immediately became one of its most identifying features. Situated in the heart of St. Julian’s, The Villa is a 19th century property with fantastic sea views. It has been fully converted to offer you the best facilities to suit any occasion.
